Cooling Time & Temperature

The Rambler uses a single cooling method powered by advanced Natural Biogel technology.

Designed for open medications that must be stored below 26°C, the Rambler helps maintain safe temperature ranges even in hot environments.

Temperature Performance (Internal Range)

When used as directed with a fully frozen Biogel pack:

🌡️ At 40°C outside temperature → Maintains 2–26°C for up to 12 hours

🌡️ At 35°C outside temperature → Maintains 2–26°C for up to 14 hours

🌡️ At 30°C outside temperature → Maintains 2–26°C for up to 16 hours

⚠️ The Rambler is engineered for reliable, extended protection from heat. It does NOT keep medication at fridge temperature. If you need to carry refrigerated medications, please check our mini travel fridges and refrigerated travel cases.

How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use Your Rambler Insulin Pen Cooler Case

The Rambler single-pen insulin case is easy to use and requires no electricity—offering ultimate convenience and reliability wherever your journey takes you!

Simple Steps to Get Started:

  1. Freeze the Biogel Cooling Pack: Pop the Biogel cooling pack into your freezer for at least 6 hours. This ensures it’s fully prepared to keep your insulin pen or medication cool.
  2. Get It Ready: Soften the frozen cooling pack by immersing it in warm water for 30 to 60 seconds. This
clever step ensures the temperature settles at a safe minimum of 2°C, preventing your insulin from freezing when in contact. Alternatively, leave the pack at room temperature for about 10 minutes to achieve the same effect.
  3. Pack It In: Place the prepared Biogel cooling pack into the insulated cold box, followed by your insulin pen or other medication.
  4. Close the lid securely, and you’re ready to go!

Extend the Chill: For continuous use, swap the used Biogel cooling pack with a spare, pre-frozen one to maintain continuous cooling. Additional Biogel cooling packs, compatible with the Rambler insulin case cooler, are available for purchase here.

Frequently asked questions

How Long Does The Rambler Keep My Insulin Pen Cool?

The Rambler Insulin Pen Case keeps your insulin or medicine cool below 26°C for up to 16 hours at 30°C, up to 14 hours at 35°C, and up to 12 hours at 40°C — plenty for most everyday use, whether you're commuting, at work, running errands, or out and about.

Can I Use The Rambler Insulin Pen Case To Carry Refrigerated Insulin?

No — the Rambler Insulin Pen Case is designed exclusively for heat protection. It keeps open, in-use medicines cool at room temperature below 26°C, but it can't maintain fridge temperatures (2–8°C). It's not suitable for transporting unopened insulin or other medicines that need to be refrigerated.

💡 If you need to travel with refrigerated medicines, you'll want one of our medical travel fridges. Have a browse of our full range of mini fridges and medicine coolers to find the right fit for your needs.

Is The Rambler Case Compatible With Medicines Other Than Insulin?

Yes — the Rambler is a brilliant cooling case for any injection pen that needs to stay cool at room temperature below 26°C.

That said, the Rambler is a small and compact case, and not every injection pen will fit. Its internal chamber measures 2.4 cm in diameter and 17.4 cm in length.

🔍 Check the product images to confirm your medicine's compatibility before ordering. If you're unsure whether your medicine fits, get in touch with our support team with the name and format of your medicine, and we'll be happy to confirm for you!

What Makes The Rambler Better Than A Regular Cool Bag Or Ice Pack?

Three reasons, really.

  • First, safety: the Rambler's Biogel pack freezes at 2°C and physically can't drop below that point, so there's no risk of accidentally freezing your insulin or medicine.
  • Second, mess: ice melts and drips, whereas the Biogel pack stays dry and contained throughout.
  • Third, reliability: a lunch bag has no engineered insulation — it's a bit of a guessing game.

The Rambler Insulin Pen Case is laboratory tested and proven to keep things cool for up to 16 hours, to medical-grade standards.

How Do I Set Up And Use The Rambler Insulin Pen Case?

The Rambler Insulin Pen Case is wonderfully easy to use.

Freeze the included Biogel pack for a minimum of 6 hours (longer if you like). Before use, submerge it in warm water for 30–60 seconds to bring its surface temperature up to a safe level and avoid direct contact with insulin at below-freezing temperatures. Dry it gently, pop it inside the Rambler along with your injection pen, seal the lid, and you're done — no buttons, no cables, no settings.

The whole thing takes under a minute, and your cooling case is ready to go for up to 16 hours of cooling.

Does The Rambler Insulin Pen Case Require Electricity Or Charging To Keep Insulin Cool?

No — the Rambler works entirely through passive cooling using the included Biogel Cooling Pack: no electricity, no USB, no charging of any kind.

💡 If you'd prefer an electric insulin cooler, we've got several USB cooling cases for you:

  • For room-temperature heat protection with electric precision, have a look at the Rambler Pro.
  • For a cooler that handles both room temperature and full refrigeration, the Explorer is a brilliantly versatile choice.
  • For USB-powered refrigeration, the Voyager, the Pioneer PRO, the Pioneer, and the Voyager Mini are purpose-built for that.
Can I Extend The Rambler's Cooling Time Beyond 16 Hours?

Yes! Simply pick up one or more additional Biogel Cooling Packs and swap them out once the first one warms up. Keep a spare in the freezer at home or in a hotel room minibar, and you can extend your protection indefinitely.

Will The Rambler Still Cool My Insulin Pen If I Forget To Freeze The Biogel Pack?

If you forget to freeze the Biogel pack, the Rambler won't cool effectively — the pack needs at least 6 hours in the freezer before use. In a pinch, freezing it for 3–4 hours will give you partial performance, but for the full cooling duration, always aim for 6 hours or more.

The pack can stay in the freezer indefinitely without any issues, so we'd recommend keeping it in there permanently so it's always ready when you need it.

How Long Do The Biogel Cooling Packs Last, And Where Do I Get A Replacement?

The Biogel Cooling Packs included with our medical cooling cases are designed to last indefinitely with regular use — there's no fixed lifespan, and they don't degrade with repeated freeze-thaw cycles. As long as the pack remains intact and shows no signs of physical damage, leaking, or unusual changes in texture, it'll carry on performing as expected.

The only reason to replace it is if it becomes punctured, torn, or starts leaking. If that happens, replacement Biogel Cooling Packs are available here.

What Is The Difference Between 4AllFamily's Rambler And Rambler Pro Insulin Pen Cases?

Both are compact, single-pen insulin coolers designed for open, in-use medicines at room temperature.

The upgraded Rambler Pro adds a built-in electric cooling module with a temperature display, auto shut-off, and a rechargeable battery, giving you active temperature control and real-time monitoring in the same slim design.

💡 If you'd like the simplest and most affordable option, the Rambler is ideal. If real-time visibility and electric precision matter to you, the Rambler Pro is well worth the upgrade.

Does The Rambler Fit In A Handbag, Pocket, Or Bag?

Absolutely! The Rambler is one of the most compact medical travel coolers around, measuring just 22 cm tall and 4.3 cm in diameter, and weighing only 320g. It slips easily into a handbag, a jacket pocket, a backpack side pocket, or a gym bag without taking up much room at all.

I Need To Carry More Than 1 Insulin Pen. What Cooling Case Do You Recommend?

The Rambler is designed for one injection pen only.

If you need to carry more, the best option depends on whether your pens need refrigeration or just heat protection.

  • For heat protection at room temperature, the Chiller cooling pouches hold up to 4 insulin pens in a flat, lightweight format.
  • The Explorer is also an excellent option — in USB-only mode it keeps multiple pens at room temperature, and in Biogel or combined mode it can refrigerate your unopened stock at the same time too, making it a brilliant all-in-one solution.

🔍 If you're not sure which insulin cooler is right for you, get in touch with our support team and we'll be happy to help you choose.

Can I Fly With The Rambler? Can I Pack It In My Hand Luggage?

Absolutely! Like all 4AllFamily's medical cooling cases, the Rambler is fully approved for airport security and can be carried through in your hand luggage — whether you're flying from a UK airport, within the EU, or on international routes.

💡Do make sure to carry your medicine inside your cooling case to show it's being used for medical purposes — this makes getting through security nice and straightforward.

The Rambler's compact size and passive design make it one of the easiest coolers to travel with: no power banks, no cables, nothing to declare beyond your medicine.

What Is The Return And Warranty Policy For The Rambler?

Not quite what you were after? No worries — you've got 30 days from delivery to request a return.
